artist statement

 

I knew photography was my calling at the age of six, after seeing a photograph at the Museum of Modern Art, titled Bikini, by William Klein.  I have never forgotten that image, as it told a memorable story of a trusting relationship between an old man and a young girl; perhaps a grandfather and granddaughter.

That image taught me that there are more ways to tell a story than the written word.

I was never able to draw a picture with a pencil, but when I picked up a camera, I learned how to see and capture details in the world around me. I paid attention to simple things that I had never noticed before like the pattern of lines on a fire escape, reflections in a puddle, children at play, or the light and shadows on a wall.

I also saw how many extraordinary things exist in the banalities of everyday life.

I strive to be a blank canvas, take in the world around me and turn it into a story.

I have been exhibited in various galleries throughout the New York metro area, including Aperture, as well as Pittsburgh, PA.  My photographs have been published in the New York Times, NY Observer, as well as other magazines and periodicals. I enjoy working with people, and animals,  making them feel as comfortable as possible, and adding humor whenever I can.I  strive to tell timeless stories which inspire people to think and feel through my images.
